Friday Cabins #37: A New "Adventure Hotel" Chain Launches in Middle America
This new lodging company by AutoCamp offers gear rentals and repurposes old motels into adventure basecamps
Happy Friday everyone! It’s finally here. Whew. You may know the drill-every Friday here at Cabins Etc we bring you some need-to-know info from the world of cabins for some weekend inspo. If you’re new here-welcome.
After a string of bright and beautiful first few days of Fall, it’s a little gloomy here in the Big Apple and personally, I’m loving it. All the more reason to watch a movie later with a nice cup of tea and an especially cozy pair of socks. It’s the little things, people.
Moving on. Today we’re taking a quick look at AutoCamp’s newest hospitality project, Field Station, a new sister brand launched this week. Known for their Instagrammable glampsites of Airstreams, cabins, and canvas tents across the states, Cali-based AutoCamp has plans to open Field Station(s?) in early 2023-a micro-chain of motels and other renovated lodging dedicated to supporting and cultivating local adventures for nature-loving guests.

Field Station, AutoCamp’s newest lodging venture, renovates existing motels in outdoor hotspots into upscale basecamps for the adventurous. Complete with outdoor-focused decor and photography, and enough space to stash your gear in your room, the fledgling company thoughtfully curates space as a launching pad for outdoor activity, as well as a place to crash at night.
Besides in-room coolers, benches, and bike racks for storing gear, communal spaces include an eat-in and to-go cafe, a Biergarten for that Après-ski brewski, a spacious lobby for hanging out, and a pool. On-site programming includes gear rental and staff members to help curate personalized outdoor experiences in the surrounding area.
But it does not stop there-oh no. In a selection of rooms, there are portaledges affixed to the walls for guests to test-drive. And while it’s admittedly a little hokey, I know I’d climb up on that thing the moment I entered a room.
Field Station’s first site is set to open early 2023 in Moab, Utah with plans in motion for Lake Tahoe and Joshua Tree sites to open in the near future. A non-peak season stay will cost a reasonable $159/night.
have a good weekend! ttyl
